Coral Energy’s refinery facility

mcr tecresa’s® passive fire protection solutions have recently been implemented at Coral Energy’s refinery facility.

For this project, TCP PROTECT Greece was responsible for supplying the required mcr tecresa® fire protection systems and materials, while also providing technical supervision throughout the installation process.

The installation works were successfully carried out by ARP (Athenian Renovation Projects), ensuring that all fire protection measures were executed in accordance with the project specifications and the applicable fire safety requirements.

The main objective of the project was to upgrade the fire safety performance of an existing building within the facility.

One of the key challenges was that the entire roof-supporting structure consisted of timber elements, which required a passive fire protection solution capable of improving the fire resistance and reaction-to-fire characteristics of the wooden components without altering the existing structure.

In addition to the protection of the timber roof structure, several openings were identified along the perimeter walls of the building.

These openings represented a potential risk of fire and smoke spread between adjacent areas and therefore had to be properly sealed to maintain the integrity of the fire compartmentation strategy and ensure adequate separation from the annex building.

To address the protection requirements of the timber structure, POLYLACK WOOD TRANSPARENT was applied directly onto the timber trusses.

This transparent intumescent coating was selected for its ability to significantly enhance the fire performance of the wood while preserving its natural appearance.

In the event of a fire, the coating reacts to heat by forming an insulating char layer, helping to delay combustion effects and contributing to the overall fire safety of the building. Regarding the façade openings, a fire-rated enclosure system was designed and installed using  TECBOR® Fire Protection Boards.

The cladding solution was specifically developed to restore the required compartmentation and provide the necessary fire resistance rating.

By sealing these vulnerable areas with a tested and certified fire protection system, the project ensured that the building met the required fire safety standards while reducing the risk of fire propagation to adjacent structures.

Thanks to the combined use of mcr tecresa® passive fire protection technologies and the coordinated efforts of TCP Protect Greece and ARP, the project successfully enhanced the fire safety performance of the facility, providing long-term protection for both the structure and its occupants while supporting compliance with current fire protection regulations.
