Tecbor® Boards - Tunnel Protection

In the last years, due to fire events occurred in tunnels, efficient solutions have been sought to safeguard their structural integrity.

The purpose of mercor tecresa® is to guarantee people’s safety by ensuring tunnel stability and integrity, ultimately increasing the time needed for evacuation.

Currently the EU has established within its territory the European Directive 2004/54/EC; including Spain by Royal Decree 635/2006 for tunnels, although they technically lack of established regulations. Technicians must base on the
procedures acquired in other countries, such as the NFP 502, the Dutch RWS or German ZTV among others. This last one internationally recognized.

mcr tecresa® offers solutions for tunnel protection based on the Dutch RWS, in which heating curve is described a higher temperature peak. This makes our solutions to cover the most unfavorable conditions during a fire.

Furthermore mercor tecresa®, has conducted tests in a real tunnel, adding fire power (combustible diesel) with an approximate power output of 15 Mw. These tests were conducted on the Siero tunnel (TST).

Description of Assembly

The ceiling is protected using two 20 mm Tecbor® Boards. Firstly, fix the 15 x 45 x 0.5 mm metal omega profiles spaced 610 mm apart, directly to the concrete slab using a 8 x 46 mm metal anchor. Place the first layer of 20 mm Tecbor® and attach it using 3.5 x 45 mm self-tapping screws. The second layer of 20 mm Tecbor® is attached using 4.2 x 55 mm selftapping screws

The walls are protected by means of two 20 mm Tecbor® Boards, anchored directly to the concrete. To attach the first layer, use 8 x 46 mm M6 metal anchors.

For the second layer, use 8 x 76 mm M6 metal anchors. Apply Tecbor® Joint Paste to the board joints and screw heads. For more information, contact our technical department

Once the metal structure has been assembled, attach the two layers of Tecbor® 20 mm Boards to the structure using 5.5 x 73 mm self-drilling screws.

Description of Assembly

Assemble the metal structure from which the suspended ceiling will hang, forming grids (check dimensions) with primary profiles of 75 x 46 x 1.2 mm. The secondary profile is substituted by a 12 x 150 mm Tecbor® Board strip.

Once the metal structure has been assembled, attach the two layers of Tecbor® 20 mm Boards to the structure using 6.3 x 65 mm self-drilling screws.
